Coming out (on Twitter, no less)

Post by Reverant Revan on Tue Aug 18, 2015 8:22 pm

For those of you who haven't heard yet, here's what happened:

Equality Ohio ‏@EqualityOhio · 10h10 hours ago
This is a very traumatic time for the transgender community.

Another.

Murder.

This is the post I responded to, with the following tweet:

@EqualityOhio Absolutely disgusting.
I've never mentioned this to anyone, but I'm a pre-op transgender.
#NeverScared of cowards.

@ReverantRevan Stay strong. There is much love and positivity, but those stories tend not to make the headlines. -g.

@EqualityOhio I know.
I can't have the operation due to medical complications.
I'm stuck with what I have, but I have accepted that.

Reverant Revan ‏@ReverantRevan · 22m22 minutes ago
@EqualityOhio What I won't accept is to be defined by what I look like, to be forced into a gender stereotype. I am who I am. I won't change

@ReverantRevan Sounds like a journey. Glad you're fighting the good fight. -g

@EqualityOhio Doing the best I can with what I have.
By helping others, I heal myself.
It helps me find meaning in my own existence.

So, there you have it.
I think the tweets themselves explain a lot, but here's the rest:

I have the body of a man, but I feel like a woman.
I'm not gay, I am attracted to women.
So I'm a male lesbian, if I have to give it a name.

I'm not a cross-dresser, although there are clothes I'd like to wear that some might call feminine, or girly, or metrosexual.
I don't wear make-up, also because I have a genetic skin disorder which is preventing me from having a sex change operation, since it could have horrific complications.
So the choice would be to either risk it against my better judgement and hope that by some miracle everything works out, or just accept this isn't a viable option and move on.
I've chosen option 2.

I don't see myself as brave for coming out publicly like this.
I just don't like being pushed around by people who think they can tell me how to live my life, what decisions I should make or tell me what to think or feel.
Nobody has that right.

Take it for what you will.

Update:
I talk some more about this here:

This is now slowly becoming a shortened autobiography.
